BURN BABY BURN - MY FAVOURITE CANDLES

When I am stressed and I need to shut down at the end of the day and drift off into a peaceful abyss, something I like to do is light candles. For me, a candle can take away the woes of the way, and as I sit back, relax, and light the wick, I feel my worries slip away as the wax melts and the flame thickens.

My all time favourite candle is Jo Malone Vanilla & Anise. My lovely boyfriend very kindly gifted this to me a few years ago in dissertation writing. I don’t know if it’s the gorgeous luxurious chrome and glass packaging or the sweet scent of vanilla that makes me feel better, but the combination is calming and is an absolute pleasure to use.

My other favourite candle which is now devastatingly discontinued (weep), is Laura Mercier's Roasted Chestnuts. Don’t be fooled by this small candle - I have never ever smelt anything so strong and the smell lingers for hours, making it feel like Christmas 24/7. I would buy this over and over again if was still available, and it’s beautiful rich autumnal scent fills you with warmth each time you use it.

My last favourite candle is by WoodWick, which my sister kindly bought me for Christmas one year. Now I’ll be honest, the scent on this one is hard to detect – great for people who don’t like strong smells. But the best thing about this candle is that it crackles like a hot burning fire on a winters day. This is my favourite thing to listen to as it takes you to a place of relaxation and serenity.

For me, candles are a small touch that can make a difference and it’s the small things that count.
