We have all been there.. Desperately searching around for a job.. Looking for that dream role while trying to pay the bills.. and when you finally get an interview – the preparation can be one of the most stressful things.
Having a Skype interview can be a good and bad thing. The good thing is – you are in the comfort of your own home – the bad thing is – you are in the comfort of your own home.
When dressing for an interview online – it is important to be comfortable yet smart. You might be at home, but sitting in your dressing gown is not the way to go.
My top tip is to get fully dressed. Although the interviewer may only see your top half, if you are in a smart top and some comfy trousers – you aren’t going to fully feel the part. Wear a smart shirt or a smart top so you feel empowered. My tip for the bottom would be a comfortable skirt or some smart trousers. This way, you can still be comfortable but are giving yourself the chance to feel professional which will then hopefully help you in the interview.
My other tip is to try and not wear anything too ‘distracting’. By this I mean try and not wear something that is noisy (i.e. beads) or anything too tight. As you won’t have a physical person in front of you – you might have the urge to fiddle so try and wear something classic that allows you to not fiddle.
I would recommend to not wear shoes. You don’t want to have heels distracting you and making any noise. Comfort is still important despite being smart. If you want to jazz up your outfit a little then add a statement necklace. These always look lovely with a shirt.
Remember – you wouldn’t turn up to an interview dressed in your pyjamas (even though it would be nice), so dress the same – you won’t regret it.
Enjoy and good luck!
